Six panels press together into a die, with the pips engraved on the outer faces so they burn dark against the wood. Opposite faces add up to seven, like a real one. Make it palm-sized for the table or huge for the garden.
40 × 40 × 40.0 mm · 1.57 × 1.57 × 1.57 in
Cut and assembled on an xTool M2: the six faces press together on their finger joints without glue and the pips engrave cleanly.
Edge length, outside.
Recommended · 16% of the size
The engraved dots. They keep clear of the joint band along each edge automatically.
Recommended · 27%, or less on a small die
Outer pips 10.8 mm from centre on a 40 mm face
How far the outer pips sit from the centre, as a percentage of the size. Smaller pulls the dots inward.
Recommended · 2.5 × thickness (2.8 mm)
A target, not an exact width: each edge is split into an odd number of equal fingers, never fewer than three.
Measure it with calipers. Sheets sold as 3 mm are often 2.7 to 3.2.
How much the beam burns away. Higher makes joints tighter. 0.10 to 0.20 suits most diode lasers.
