A low, wide box sized to your deck, Monopoly Deal by default, with half the cards in each of two compartments. Push the lip on the lid and it slides out through the front, running between a rail above and a liner below on each side, and stops so it can't go too far. Or pick a hinged lid instead: it lifts at the front and swings up on pins that turn in the side walls. Type a title and a message and they're engraved on the lid in the lettering you choose. It presses together without glue.

Optional. Engraved small in script at the bottom right, like a signature on a gift.

Lid
Recommended · from the deck
About 0.36 mm a card, so 40.0 mm of cards.
The box's height is worked out from this: set it and the deck height below follows.
Recommended · from the number of cards
20.0 mm in each of two compartments. The box stands 29.2 mm (1.15 in) tall, plus the lip.
How tall the stack of cards is, with a little room. Follows the number of cards; type your own if you've measured your deck.
Recommended · from the deck
The short side of a card.
Recommended · from the deck
The long side of a card.
Sliding lid: room for it to slide, at each side, above it under the rails, and round the stop tabs. Hinged lid: room at each side and round the hinge pins (at least 0.2). The joints stay tight whatever this is. If the lid is stiff, add 0.1 to 0.2; if it rattles, take some off. Thicker plywood than the thickness you entered eats into it. (Version 1 ignores this: it's as first cut.)
Gap between the cards and each wall, so they drop in and tip out easily.
Recommended · 3 × thickness (2.8 mm)
Target finger width at the corners and base.
Measure it with calipers. Sheets sold as 3 mm are often 2.7 to 3.2.
How much the beam burns away. Higher makes joints tighter. 0.10 to 0.20 suits most diode lasers.
