test · engraving · settings · beginner
Engraving looks different on every sheet. These cards burn a grid of small patches, each at its own power, speed and line density, with the settings printed beside them, so you can pick the one that looks best and use it. Grid A varies power and speed, B power and lines per cm, C speed and lines per cm, and D power and air assist. Each patch is a solid bar and a numeral, so you see fills and lettering.
All four cards burnt on an xTool M2 in 2.8 mm plywood from the xTool Studio file: every patch at its own settings, the scored headings legible.
Grids
Each test patch is this wide and tall. At 18 mm, three cards fit a 300 mm sheet with room to spare.
Numeral
Measure it with calipers. Sheets sold as 3 mm are often 2.7 to 3.2.
How much the beam burns away. Higher makes joints tighter. 0.10 to 0.20 suits most diode lasers.
